Report: Strong brings in 2nd OC candidate in Tulsa's Gilbert

Texas doesn't officially have a position open, yet coach Charlie Strong is talking to a second candidate to take over as the Longhorns' offensive coordinator.

Tulsa co-offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert is in Austin on Wednesday talking to Strong about becoming the team's next offensive coordinator, according to Orangebloods.com. Strong met with TCU offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie on Sunday in Fort Worth and on Monday in Austin. Cumbie reportedly was offered the position of offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach, but he has yet to reach a decision.

Gilbert, a Texas native from San Angelo, made a name for himself as an prolific offensive coach at Abilene Cooper High School, San Angelo Lakeview and Temple. He is somewhat limited in his college experience, directing his up-tempo attack for two seasons at Eastern Illinois and one season at Bowling Green before joining Tulsa's new staff prior to the 2014 season under former Baylor offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery.
