Report: UCLA tried to hire Lane Kiffin as offensive coordinator

UCLA head coach Jim Mora offered the Bruins offensive coordinator job to Alabama's Lane Kiffin, according to a report by ESPN's Brett McMurphy

Kiffin turned down the job before the College Football Playoff national championship, which his Crimson Tide team won 45-40 over Clemson on Monday.

UCLA promoted running backs coach Kennedy Polamalu to offensive coordinator after apparently being turned down by the former USC head coach.

Before the national championship game, Kiffin was asked by reporters what kind of opportunity it would take for him to leave his post as Alabama's offensive coordinator.

"I have a great job," Kiffin said Saturday, per ESPN. "So anytime that stuff comes up, I remind myself that I have a great job with great players and a great head coach, and there are only two teams still playing, so we're fortunate to be here."

Mora worked with Kiffin's father, Monte, with the New Orleans Saints in 1995.
