Earlier this month Beamer, the Hokies’ 29-year head coach, announced his retirement at the end of the season, and it appears the Hokies have found their next coach.
Fuente was hired by Memphis in 2012 and has led the Tigers to new heights. In 2014, Memphis clinched a share of the AAC championship. This year, Memphis was ranked No. 13 in the first College Football Playoff poll.
Beamer coached 29 years at Virginia Tech and is the winningest active coach in the FBS.
