Rich Rodriguez faces an old friend at Nevada
Arizona Wildcats head coach Rich Rodriguez will recognize a familiar face on the opposing sideline when he faces Nevada on Saturday: Scott Boone.
Boone was an assistant coach at Wabash College in Indiana, while Rodriguez was the head coach at Glenville State in West Virginia. According to RGJ.com, Boone remembers Rodriguez as the "true inventor" of the spread offense. These days, Boone is the defensive coordinator for the University of Nevada.
“We had a bunch of mutual friends and we were introduced and we’ve been friends for a long time,” said Rodriguez, in the report. “I think an awful lot of him and I think he’s done a great job there at Nevada.”
Boone is tasked to stop the potent Arizona offensive attack this weekend. He was unable to use his long-time familiarity with Rodriguez's coaching style to stop the Wildcats last season, however, when the two teams faced off last season. Arizona won, 35-28.
“They take advantage of every opportunity. Last year, every time we misfit a run, they hit the run for a big play," said Boone. "Every time they got us in man coverage, they took advantage of that."
