Rutgers fans calling for return of Greg Schiano on social media

Rutgers football is about to start the 2015 season facing multiple issues, and it seems as though some fans are ready to move on from head coach Kyle Flood.

If they do, a logical choice could come from the past: former Scarlet Knights coach Greg Schiano.

Flood is 23-16 in three seasons as head coach of the Scarlet Knights, but he is facing accusations he contacted a Rutgers faculty member regarding the grades of a player.

He also had to suspend a handful of players, including top receiver Leonte Carroo, for the first half of the season-opener against Norfolk State after they violated team rules, and Thursday more players were suspended indefinitely following their arrest in connection with an alleged home invasion and assault.

Flood took over in 2012 after Schiano left to become head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (a job from which he was fired two years ago after going 11-21).

Schiano was head coach of the Scarlet Knights from 2001-11, compiling a record of 68-67. His wins total is No. 2 all-time at Rutgers, trailing only Frank R. Burns, who was 73-51 from 1973-83.
