Rutgers WR Grant honored again by Big Ten
Janarion Grant continues to be a bright spot in a Rutgers season that has not gone as well as hoped.
The junior receiver was named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday after he piled up 263 all-purpose yards against Michigan over the weekend.
Grant notched the fourth kickoff return touchdown of his career, a 98-yarder against the Wolverines, and also had a 67-yard punt return that set up a Rutgers field goal in a game the Scarlet Knights lost 49-16.
"It's exciting for Janarion, and it's exciting for our team," Rutgers coach Kyle Flood told reporters Monday. "I think it's really exciting for the other 10 players that are on those units. I think they all share in that award.
"As spectacular a returner as Janarion is and as much of a weapon as he is, it's not just him. There are a lot of great blocks on that kickoff return. There are some tremendous efforts on that punt return that got us in position to kick a field goal before the half. So I think even though it is an individual award, we're going to celebrate it with more than just Janarion, that's for sure. And it's just one more way that he continues to show that he can be a difference-maker."
Grant was also named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 14.
