Saint Francis RB Bagley likely to miss 2017 season

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 10:25 p.m. ET

(STATS) - Saint Francis senior running back Marcus Bagley is expected to miss the 2017 season because of a knee injury, which severely hampers the Red Flash's bid to repeat as Northeast Conference champion.

Bagley first injured his right knee in the Albany game last September. He played through the injury, missing one game and parts of several others, and it grew progressively worse. He's been rehabbing the knee during the offseason and a return to the lineup this season is doubtful.

He would be eligible for a medical redshirt.

A first-team All-NEC selection last year, Bagley was second in the conference with 891 rushing yards on 207 carries. The Red Flash won the NEC title and qualified for the FCS playoffs for the first time.

Bagley was named to the NEC preseason team last month. Also the 2014 NEC Rookie of the Year, he has 1,944 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in his career.
