(STATS) - Sam Houston State entered the season without All-America defensive end P.J. Hall as he serves a two-game team suspension because of an academic issue.
Hall wasn't in the lineup Friday night when the third-ranked Bearkats beat No. 7 Richmond 48-34 in Waco, Texas. The 6-foot-1, 280-pound senior also will miss the defending Southland Conference champion's game at Prairie View A&M next Thursday.
Hall was the Southland defensive player of the year and a first-team All-American as well as the runner-up for the STATS FCS Buck Buchanan Award last season. He has totaled 36 sacks and 67 tackles for loss through his first three seasons.
