Savannah State to face challenging schedule
(STATS) - Savannah State's struggling football program is coming off an encouraging season under first-year coach Erik Raeburn, but as usual the Tigers won't take it easy in their 11-game 2017 schedule that was announced Thursday.
The Tigers' 3-7 record last season marked just their second record with more than two wins since the school moved to the FCS level in 2000. They finished 3-5 in the MEAC.
This year, Savannah State will play only four times at Theodore A. Wright Stadium because of a non-conference schedule that features dates at Sun Belt member Appalachian State (Sept. 9), Big Sky power Montana (Sept. 16) and two-time defending Big South champion Charleston Southern (Oct. 21).
Within the MEAC, the Tigers will host Florida A&M (Sept. 23), Hampton (Oct. 7, Homecoming), Delaware State (Nov. 4) and South Carolina State (Nov. 18). Their conference road games will be against Bethune-Cookman (Sept. 30), Morgan State (Oct. 14), Norfolk State (Oct. 28) and North Carolina A&T (Nov. 11).
