SEC Media Days conclude with the media's odd 2015 preseason poll

Published Jul. 16, 2015 3:50 p.m. ET

The votes have been cast and the picks are in as the media picked Alabama to win the West Division and Auburn to win the SEC Championship in 2015 at the conclusion of SEC Media Days.

Wait what?

Apparently Auburn received the most votes to win the championship while the Crimson Tide were voted more consistently to finish at or near the top of their division. That may not make much sense but that's what occurred in Hoover, Ala., as it appears the league is set for a wild ride this season.

Here's the complete breakdown of the media's SEC votes, the noted number indicates a first place vote:

SEC East

1. Georgia Bulldogs (166)

2. Tennessee Volunteers (36)

3. Missouri Tigers (20)

4. South Carolina Gamecocks (1)

5. Florida Gators (1)

6. Kentucky Wildcats (1)

7. Vanderbilt Commodores

SEC West

1. Alabama Crimson Tide (92)

2. Auburn Tigers (108)

3. LSU Tigers (10)

4. Arkansas Razorbacks (6)

5. Ole Miss Rebels (3)

6. Texas A&M Aggies (4)

7. Mississippi State Bulldogs (2)

SEC champion

1. Auburn Tigers, 96

2. Alabama Crimson Tide, 80

3. Georgia Bulldogs, 28

4. LSU Tigers, 9

5. Ole Miss Rebels, 3

5. Arkansas Razorbacks, 3

7. Texas A&M Aggies, 2

7. Tennessee Volunteers, 2

9. Mississippi State Bulldogs, 1

9. Florida Gators, 1

It should be noted the media has failed to accurately predict the winner of the SEC 18 times the past 23 seasons, so Auburn already has the odds against them heading into the season.

In 2014, the media selected South Carolina to win the East, and the Gamecosks finished fifth in their division. They picked Missouri to finish fourth in the East, and the Tigers won the division for the second consecutive season. The media did, however, accurately pick Alabama to win the West and the SEC title last season.
