SEC well-represented in Butkus Award final list
The remaining five finalists for the Butkus Award were released on Monday. SEC players compiled 60-percent of the candidates in question for the award given to the top linebacker in the entire country.
Reggie Ragland of Alabama, Georgia's Leonard Floyd, and LSU's Deion Jones are listed within the final five, along with Jaylon Smith of Notre Dame, and Raekwon McMillan of Ohio State.
The last time an SEC linebacker won the award was back in 2010, when Von Miller of Texas A&M took home the prize. Alabama's Rolando McClain won the award the previous year.
Interestingly enough, Missouri linebacker Kentrell Brothers was omitted from the initial list for the award. On the year, he leads the nation with 140 total tackles.
