Shelley-Smith makes full transition to O-line from tight end
Prior to last season, Jordan Shelley-Smith was catching passes in practice, molding himself into a college-level tight end at KU—but that dream quickly changed.
Kansas needed help on the offensive line, and the Jayhawk coaching staff called upon Shelley-Smith to help fill the void.
"Getting thrown into the mix during the season is a little rough because you don't have as much time to learn," he told JayhawkSlant.com. "You know you have a game in a couple weeks so you learn on the run."
Now fifty pounds heavier and with a full offseason to study the position, the rising redshirt junior has found comfort at offensive tackle. He says O-line coach Zach Yenser has been a valuable resource for him.
"It has been really good and he has taught me so much," Shelley-Smith said of his experience with Yenser in spring. "I have learned a lot just in this little time of practice. He has taught us all a lot and it has been good to learn from him. It has also been good to be around him. It is a good situation all around."
