Sheperd wants to follow in Dez Bryant's footsteps at Oklahoma State
High school recruits have plenty of reasons for selecting the school they'll attend, but for Oklahoma State wide receiver Brandon Sheperd, there was one overarching reason that influenced his decision.
Sheperd idolizes former OSU receiver Dez Bryant, who had tremendous success in Stillwater.
"The whole reason I came up here is ’cause I love everything that Dez does, so I wanted to follow in his footsteps," Sheperd says in a video feature put together by OSU's media department.
Heading into his senior season, Sheperd has a chance to replicate Bryant's success at Oklahoma State.
Sheperd quickly became rising sophomore quarterback Mason Rudolph's favorite target in his three starts last season.
In Rudolph's second start, a thrilling overtime victory over rival Oklahoma, Sheperd caught two touchdown passes and racked up a total of 156 yards, both single-game career highs for Sheperd.
After finishing last season with 739 receiving yards and five touchdowns, Sheperd will have to be at his best for every game in 2015 to even near Bryant's stellar sophomore season at Oklahoma State, in which he tallied 1,480 receiving yards and scored 19 touchdowns.
However, he has all the pieces in place to have an abundant senior season.
"I got some really good teammates," Sheperd says. "This is probably the best group of guys I've been with so far, so I'm looking forward to this season."
