Slowing down the offense has helped Georgia close strong

While the results may be unspectacular on paper, Georgia's huddled offense has been crucial in the midseason turnaround.

After scoring 53 total points in a midseason 1-3 stretch, the Dawgs coaching staff decided slowing things down and abandoning the up-tempo offense might fix things. They were right.

"We've decided to slow the game down a little bit," head coach Mark Richt said. "Decided to try to control the ball a little bit more. You know, do things that aren't really sexy when it comes to football, offensive football, but things that we thought were going to help us win."

The turn has resulted in Georgia scoring 70 points over the last three games and in turn kept its defense, the strength of the team, rested and playing its best football of the season. During the same span, the defense has surrendered only 33 points.

"I'm proud of everybody being able to do what we felt like we needed to do that was in the best interests in terms of this team to win games," Richt said. "I think in that regard, we are doing the right thing.”
