SMU starting quarterback Matt Davis is out for the season with a knee injury.

The 6-foot-1, 212-pound senior threw two touchdowns and also ran for 91 yards in the Mustangs opener, a 34-21 win at North Texas. Davis sat out SMU’s loss last weekend at Baylor, where highly regarded redshirt freshman Ben Hicks got the start.

Davis started his career at Texas A&M. He threw for almost 3,300 yards in his career and has a 21-13 TD-INT ratio. SMU is seeking a sixth year of eligibility.
