Some parallels exist between Missouri and Kentucky
In some aspects, Kentucky and Missouri mirror each other.
The two programs don't have exceptionally deep recruiting bases to pull from. While each school has had varying levels of success, neither quite match up with other powers in the SEC from a historical standpoint.
In 2001, Gary Pinkel took over a program squarely immersed in mediocrity. Since then, Pinkel's led the Tigers to five seasons of at least 10 wins, including five division titles (in both the Big 12 and the SEC). He's relied upon dogged determination and excellent player development.
These two axioms can be applied to Kentucky's current state as a program. In many ways, Mark Stoops would be wise to emulate that Pinkel did with Missouri. Kentucky has a loyal fanbase, and excellent resources. While it doesn't possess the cachet of an Alabama or LSU, it still has the potential to be a quality team.
Stoops has taken this dilapidated program and injected much-needed energy and excitement. UK has improved steadily since he took the job in 2013, and there's no question the Wildcats are on the rise.
If anything, Kentucky can surely build something similar to what Missouri has done over the course of the past decade.
