Source: Mark Richt expected to accept Miami Hurricanes coaching job

Former Georgia coach Mark Richt is expected to accept the Miami Hurricanes head coaching job, a source confirmed to FOX Sports on Wednesday.

The news was first reported by Peter Ariz, of CanesInSight.com.

There are still some details to be sorted out. Miami had wanted to have its coach in place by this weekend, the source said.

The 55-year-old Richt, a former Hurricanes QB, spent 15 seasons at Georgia and won two SEC titles, but he was fired Sunday. His record is a stellar 145-51. Before getting the Georgia job, he spent a decade on Bobby Bowden's staff at Florida State.

There has been speculation that Miami wouldn't or couldn't afford to pay its new coach above $3 million a year (Al Golden made around $2.5 million, reportedly), but a source said that the school had the flexibility to pay its new coach around $4 million per year.

Richt will replace Golden, who was fired at midseason. He was 32-25 and just 17-18 in ACC play.
