Source: Michigan DC Durkin strong candidate for Maryland job

Michigan defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin is considered a strong candidate for the Maryland head coaching vacancy, a source told FOX Sports Wednesday morning.

The 37-year-old Jim Harbaugh protege has led one of the nation's top defenses this fall as a big part of the Wolverines resurgence.

The Terps, who fired Randy Edsall earlier this year, have swung for the fences in its search, the source said. Maryland had reached out to several "big name" candidates but was turned down at least a half dozen times with those coaches having no interest.
