South Carolina names practice facility after the Spurriers

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) South Carolina has found a new way to honor Steve Spurrier after recently removing an 80-foot poster of the Gamecocks former football coach that hung outside the stadium the past two seasons.

University trustees agreed Tuesday to name the new indoor practice building the ''Jerri and Steve Spurrier Indoor Practice Facility.''

The building cost $14.3 million and was officially dedicated in ceremonies last November.

Spurrier is South Carolina's all-time wins leader, going 86-49 in 10-plus seasons. He resigned in mid-October, saying the Gamecocks needed a change.

South Carolina recently named Will Muschamp its new football coach.

Trustees also gave initial approval to construct a 100,000-square foot football operations facility expected to cost $50 million. Athletic director Ray Tanner says the school completed a feasibility study on the project.
