Southern Miss' Pete Golding hired as UTSA's defensive coordinator
Southern Miss assistant coach Pete Golding is the new defensive coordinator for UTSA under recently hired head coach Frank Wilson,
A source told FOX Sports Tuesday morning that the hire was expected. The school announced it on Thursday.
Golding has experience as a DC. Prior to joining the USM staff as a secondary coach, he spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator at FCS Southeastern Louisiana. In his final year with the Lions, Golding helped Southeastern Louisiana to an 11-3 overall record, 7-0 in Southland Conference play. The Lions set a school record for victories in a season and won the program's first league title since 1961.
Golding served as Southeastern Louisiana’s DC after spending the previous two seasons in the same capacity at alma mater Delta State, where he ranks third all-time in tackles.
Delta State went 22-7 in his two seasons running the defense after going 5-5 the year before Golding took over.
