Spurrier 'thinks [Muschamp] and his staff will do very well'
Never one to be at a loss for words, former South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier offered his opinion on newly-hired head man Will Muschamp.
"I think Will and his staff will do very well," said Spurrier. "He's a well respected defensive coach."
Spurrier also will speak his mind on any topic pertaining to offense -- especially when it involves his alma mater, Florida. Brutally honest at times, there appeared to be (what could be construed as) a bit of a shot taken at Muschamp.
"For whatever reason down at Florida, the offense never quite got going," said Spurrier. "But I'm sure he learned a lot and he's ready to go."
Muschamp's lack of offensive success in Gainesville was a salient reason as to why he was let go. Although he did lead Florida to an impressive 11-2 mark during his second year as head coach, he followed that up with a disappointing 4-8 record during his third year. Surely, his outdated and antiquated run-based scheme will have to evolve in Columbia.
As for Spurrier, he seems to enjoy his post-resignation life away from coaching. He reportedly donated his last payment from South Carolina ($70,000) to the Gamecock Club.
"I am completely at peace that I made the right decision," said Spurrier.
