Status of MSU's Conklin uncertain as Spartans begin Big Ten opener prep

Michigan State beat Central Michigan on Saturday but lost star left tackle Jack Conklin to an apparent injury to his left knee.

Whether or not he will be able to play this weekend when the Spartans take on Purdue is uncertain as the week begins.

SpartanTailgate reports coach Mark Dantonio did not share anything about Conklin's status during a conference call with reporters Sunday night but had good things to say about his replacement, Dennis Finley, a sophomore from Detroit Cass Tech.

“This was his first opportunity with a lot of football plays and he got better and better as the game went,” Dantonio said. “I thought he played winning football. He did exactly what he needs to do. He’s a big guy. He was exceptionally sudden and pass-blocked well. Had one holding call, but other than that I thought played very well.”

Conklin was a member of the All-Big Ten second team last season.
