Suspended MSU running back still in limbo

Published Jun. 5, 2015 5:23 p.m. ET

Mark Dantonio had good things to say during spring ball about his contenders to be the new starter at running back, but most coaches agree a team can never have too many talented runners.

So while Madre London and Gerald Holmes -- as well as incoming freshman L.J. Scott -- could combine to carry the load, Dantonio would no doubt like to have Delton Williams available as well.

However, Michigan State director of athletics Mark Hollis told MLive.com the decision will not be left solely to the coach.

"To this point, Mark and frankly Delton have handled it extremely well," Hollis said. "But it's a very serious concern on a campus that it will be a collaborative decision at the end of the day."

With Jeremy Langford and Nick Hill having graduated, Williams is the Spartans' leading returning rusher from 2014, when he totaled 316 yards and five touchdowns.
