Suspended WR Cain won't practice with Clemson in the spring

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) Clemson receiver Deon Cain won't go through on-field workouts this spring, although he will attend meetings and watch practices from the sidelines.

Tigers coach Dabo Swinney said he wanted to lighten some of Cain's football requirements this semester. Cain was suspended and sent home from the Orange Bowl last December for violating team rules.

Swinney says he was pleased with Cain's attitude so far in the spring and is confident he'll be on the field for Clemson next fall. The receiver had 34 catches for 582 yards and five touchdowns as a freshman.

The coach says if Cain continues to meet requirements to get back on the field, he'll be full speed for fall camp.
