After starting five games as a true freshman for Syracuse last season, quarterback A.J. Long has yet to see the field for the Orange this season.

Turns out, he’ll never see the field for the Orange again.

The school announced Tuesday that it has medically disqualified the 6-foot, 177-pound sophomore due to “multiple concussions [suffered] while at Syracuse University."

"We appreciate AJ's hard work and the contributions he's made to our program," coach Scott Shafer said in a statement released by the school. "I look forward to watching him continue to grow both as a student and as a young man. I wish him the best."

The release also stated that team physician Dr. James Tucker disqualified Long “from further participation in football and any other contact sport at Syracuse."

According to Syracuse.com, there has never been a report of Long suffering a concussion at Syracuse. Last season, Long threw for 935 yards and four touchdowns and eight interceptions on 89-of-165 passing. He also ran for a pair of scores.

Syracuse.com reported that Long is the fourth Orange football player medically disqualified by the school due to concussions in the past two calendar years, joining defensive linemen Tyler Marona and Isaiah Johnson, and offensive tackle Kyle Knapp.

Long also posted this thank you message to Instagram later Tuesday. (Hit refresh -- F5 -- if below photo doesn't appear.)
