Syracuse Football: The Roster Continues To Take Shape With Another Transfer
The Syracuse football roster continues to move with all the new roster moves. With that being said another player has transferred from SU.
Syracuse football safety Chauncey Scissum has gotten his release from his scholarship and will seek a transfer for his fifth season of eligibility, per Scissum’s Instagram.
This isn’t a normal transfer though. As most of #OrangeNation knows Scissum and another former Syracuse player were involved in a very difficult situation last Spring.
A horrific incident last spring when he was one of two players repeatedly stabbed at an outdoor party. Scissum was critically injured with wounds to the right side of his neck, right upper chest, left shoulder and bottom lip, according to police.
Corey Winfield was the second player attacked that afternoon last April. Like Scissum, he has also gotten his release and will leave the university.
Both players recovered from their injuries before the start of preseason practice. While neither

player had the same impact on the field as in years prior.
There’s been a lot of movement for the Syracuse football program. Scissum becomes the seventh player to transfer from the football program since the fall.
The turnover was expected especially with the switching of the guard last season from Scott Shafer to Dino Babers. But speaking of the roster changes, head coach Dino Babers spoke with ESPN.com earlier this week about his first season with the Orange.
Here’s what he had to say about the recruiting trail thus far in Central New York.
What’s the response you’ve been getting on the recruiting trail? Has there been excitement about what you’re doing?
Babers: No doubt. We really geared this thing toward recruiting. We’re in it for the long haul. We had to show the guys we were recruiting what they were going to do and how they would be playing. I think we did a good job on that offensively and defensively, even though we had to take our lumps while we were showing them.
Babers has already gotten his hands dirty for the 2017 class. He already snagged a JUCO linebacker that should help out immediately next season. Stay tuned for all the latest with your Syracuse Orange.
