Take your pick: Royce Freeman or Christian McCaffrey?

Published Nov. 12, 2015 4:15 p.m. ET

Oregon's Royce Freeman and Stanford's Christian McCaffrey are the two best running backs in the Pac-12 conference. While others may argue that assessment, the stats don't lie.

Freeman, a sophomore, leads the conference in rushing with 1,287 yards and in rushing touchdowns with 11. Nationally, Freeman ranks fourth in rushing yards and seventh in all-purpose yards (1,511).

If Oregon was as highly ranked as No. 7 Stanford is, there's little doubt that Freeman would be in the Heisman Trophy conversation.

Christian McCaffrey, on the other hand, is squarely in the Heisman talk. McCaffrey has done it all for the Cardinal this season and leads the nation in all-purpose yards with 2,174 yards. His 241.6 all-purpose yards per game puts him on track to break Barry Sanders' single-season record of 3,250 all-purpose yards.

McCaffrey, a sophomore, ranks second in the Pac-12 with 1,207 rushing yards and has rushed for over 100 yards in each of the last seven games--all Stanford victories.

Freeman and McCaffrey can settle who is the better player in Palo Alto on Saturday.
