Tanner McEvoy has become the Badgers 'MacGuyver'
Tanner McEvoy wanted to be the starting quarterback at Wisconsin for the last two seasons. That's a goal that he accomplished last season in a year where he split time with Joel Stave.
Now that Paul Chryst has taken over the team and named Stave the starter, McEvoy's role has evolved even more than he could have anticipated. He lined up on both sides of the ball during the spring, getting time at safety and wide receiver. He knew that he would have to prepare his body differently this year per FOX 6 Now:
“I’ve been putting on much more muscle to get ready for the season. I knew I would be starting at safety, so I need to get in more of a mindset that I can use my body more — instead of how I was as a quarterback. Just need to adjust mentally and make plays with those guys,” McEvoy said.
Tanner knows that it will be difficult to play on both sides of the ball in the Big Ten but he wants to be a team player:
“To think you can do this at any level, it’s certainly crazy, but the coaches believe in me and I will do whatever to help this team win,” McEvoy said.
It will certainly be an interesting storyline to follow this season to see if he can do it all for the Badgers.
