TCU AD says he's not trading purple for burnt orange

TCU athletic director Chris Del Conte's name continues to be brought up as a potential candidate for the vacancy down south in Austin.

But Del Conte, who oversaw TCU's once thought to be unfathomable move into the Big 12, says he has the best job in America. Which would seem to suggest the Texas Longhorns can scratch him off their wish list.

The Horned Frogs boast the No. 3-ranked football team in the land, a baseball program fresh off another College World Series appearance and a newly renovated basketball arena, among other facility upgrades, sitting next to sparkling Amon G. Carter Stadium, the fabulously recently renovated home of Gary Patterson's football program.

Under Del Conte, who took over as athletic director in 2009, the present and future of TCU athletics has never been so vibrant, which can't be said at the moment in Austin where the football program is in a five-year tailspin, the basketball program needs a new arena and fan, alumni and booster relations sit at an all-time low.

On Tuesday, Steve Patterson resigned under pressure as Texas' athletic director. Houston lawyer and former Longhorns linebacker Mike Perrin has taken over on an interim basis.
