TCU has become Texas Tech's personal torture chamber
The Texas Tech Red Raiders would probably be just fine if the Big 12 had never allowed TCU into the conference.
For the last two seasons, TCU has tortured Tech. A year ago it was a beat down of epic proportion, a 55-point shellacking in which the Horned Frogs blew up the scoreboard with 82 points. Last Saturday in Lubbock, the Red Raiders were cruelly done in by a late fourth-quarter, fourth-down tipped pass that dropped into the hands of Horned Frogs running back Aaron Green with one foot in bounds before falling out of the end zone.
And just to prolong the torture a bit more, Tech actually was making something out of a final-play lateral-fest that looked like Cal-Stanford without the band. But just as Tech fans thought a miracle was in the making, TCU ended the dramatic play with a shove to the sideline at the 10-yard line.
The Horned Frogs have put up some mind-numbing offensive numbers against Tech in their last two meetings. Here's a quick glimpse, courtesy of the TCU athletic department:
• TCU has now reached 700 yards six times in its history. Four of the six have come in the last two seasons, including twice against Texas Tech
• TCU's 750 yards of total offense were the second most in program history, behind only the 785 it put up against Texas Tech last season in Fort Worth
• Quarterback Trevone Boykin set new career highs for completions (34), attempts (54) and yards passing (485). The 485 yards rank second for a game in TCU history
• Receiver Josh Doctson had a record-breaking day with 18 receptions for 267 yards and three touchdowns. The 267 yards receiving broke the TCU single-game mark of 226
• Doctson tied TCU’s single-game record for receptions, held by Richard Woodley versus Texas Tech in 1990. The Big 12 mark of 18 was also tied, and it is also the most receptions by any receiver in the nation this. The previous high was 16.
So excuse Texas Tech if it's seen enough purple.
