Tennessee Football: Joshua Dobbs Writes Goodbye Article to the Vols in The Players' Tribune

Tennessee football quarterback Joshua Dobbs wrote a goodbye article to the Volunteers that was published in The Players’ Tribune.

In an article entitled “Goodbye Tennessee,” Josh Dobbs gave Tennessee football and the Vols one final shoutout before looking towards the future.

Dobbs published the article in The Players’ Tribune on Tuesday morning, and it only further served to show just how classy of a guy he is. He opened with what was undoubtedly the highlight of his time in Knoxville, the Hail Mary to beat the Georgia Bulldogs this past year and the start of the 2016 season.

Then he went back to his recruiting process and how he flipped his commitment from Arizona State to the Vols before going into detail about his first real action in the Alabama game in 2013 and then reminiscing pleasantly about his time.

Heck, the importance of the engineering program in Knoxville even got a shoutout.

Although he didn’t win an SEC or national championship or even a division championship during his time in Knoxville, Dobbs showed in the letter just why Vols fans love him so much.

And he clearly loves Tennessee football back.

Here’s a part of what he said.

Of course I’ll miss Neyland Stadium — running into the checkerboard end zone and playing in front of some of the most loyal and dedicated fans in college football. I’ll miss away games, too, because the Vols’ fans travel better than any other fanbase. I’ll never forget when we played at Texas A&M in October, and the stands behind one of the end zones at Kyle Field were completely covered in orange.

Other things that he brought up were recognition of the people who came before him. Listing his inspirations, he named four Vols quarterbacks: Condredge Holloway, the first black quarterback in the SEC, Heath Shuler, whose playing style was nearly identical to Dobbs’s, Peyton Manning, who should be every quarterback’s inspiration in Knoxville, and Tee Martin, who obviously won a national championship with the Vols.

He finished the letter thanking Tennessee for all it did for him. Most Tennessee football fans are likely going to thank him as well for putting on some of the most exciting performances in school history.
