Tennessee Tech staves off Tennessee State, 30-24

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Ladarius Vanlier ran for 132 yards on 13 carries with two first quarter touchdowns, including a 79-yarder, to help lead Tennessee Tech past Tennessee State 30-24 on Saturday.

Brock McCoin finished with 65 yards rushing to go along with his 60 yards passing with a touchdown. He threw a 17-yard fourth quarter scoring strike to Krys Cates which gave Tennessee Tech a crucial two possession lead (30-21). Lane Clark drilled an 18-yard field goal for Tennessee State to trim the lead to 30-24, but the Tigers could not get over the hump. Their final drive ended in a turnover on downs after Oshay Ackerman-Carter threw an incomplete pass to Patrick Smith.

Tennessee Tech (4-7, 3-5 Ohio Valley Conference) led 23-14 at the half.

Ackerman-Carter threw for 221 yards to lead Tennessee State (4-6, 1-6), which lost despite outgaining the Golden Eagles by nearly 100 yards (344-265).
