Texas A&M Football: Aggies Stick Around in CFB Playoff Top 25
After consecutive losses to both of the Mississippi schools in the SEC, the Texas A&M football team was just hoping to stick around in the college football playoff rankings this week.
The Aggies live to fight another week. After picking up their third loss of the season on Saturday, Texas A&M was lucky to remain in the top 25. At this point the fans and the majority of the college football community seem to have written the Aggies off.
A top 25 ranking is more symbolic than it is a statement to this A&M team. Remaining in the rankings shows that the committee sees the talent and the ability of this team in spite of the results of the past two weeks.
A victory over UTSA sets up a match-up with LSU, who is currently ranked 16th. Beat the Tigers and you’re probably looking at a top 20 team come bowl season. Win that bowl and you’re looking at a top 15 finish. That would go a long way to redeeming the value of this season.

Takeaways
Alabama stays at number one. Not a shocker. It’s also not much of a surprise that the committee kept Clemson one spot above Louisville based on their head to head resume. The most peculiar aspect of this weeks rankings was that two of the top four teams from last week lost their games, yet found a way to stay in the playoff.
Four of the top 10 teams in the nation this week are from the Big 10 conference and a pair of ACC teams check in at number four and number five. There is still a lot of football to be played, but the rankings are shaping up to look like we might see our first multi-bid conference in the college football playoffs.
If Washington were to lose again, perhaps to a very capable No. 22 Washington State team, the Pac 12 would be out of contention. Oklahoma will have to win out and hope for another week of multiple upsets above them to really make a serious bid. It’s not unreasonable to think that we could only have three conferences represented come January.
