One of the high points of the 2013 Texas A&M football recruiting class, Daeshon Hall will be missed next year in Aggieland.

Hall finished his senior campaign with 46 tackles, 10.5 TFL, 3.5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. Over his four year career at Texas A&M he totaled 154 tackles, 33.0 TFL, 14.0 sacks, 4 forced fumbles and an interception which he returned 54 yards.

Recap

Myles Garrett is going to be a first round draft pick this year, but he wasn’t the only reason that Texas A&M was considered to have the most talented duo of defensive lineman in the country.

Playing on the opposite side of the line as Garrett, Hall was primed for a big year. Opposing offenses often had to block Garrett with two players rather than just one, leaving the opposite side vulnerable to Hall.

Unfortunately that theory never really seemed to pan out for the senior defensive end. Hall managed just 1.5 sacks and 7 tackles for a loss in games that Myles Garrett was playing. In the two games Garrett missed entirely (at South Carolina and at Mississippi State) he tallied 3.5 tackles for a loss and 2 sacks.

When you compare his results to preseason expectations, his senior campaign left many Aggie fans wishing for more. He wasn’t bad by any stretch, but he wasn’t the elite edge rusher the Aggies needed. To his credit, the interior of the line was so porous against the run that it made getting to the quarterback that much more difficult.

Looking Ahead

Daeshon Hall is projected as the 12th best defensive end in the 2017 NFL draft class by CBS Sports. What do they know, they have Myles Garrett and number two. Ha.

As for Hall, he’s shaping up to be a second day pick. He might prove to be better than scouts expect. After all, he did have to contend with living in the shadow of Garrett. Barring something unforeseen, Texas A&M will have two defensive ends taken in the first five rounds of the NFL draft in the same year. That’s impressive, but it also opens up two starting roles in 2017.

Jarrett Johnson and Qualen Cunningham are both juniors that will likely return next year. Three start recruit Tyree Johnson also figures to be in the mix to see significant playing time.
