Texas Football Recruiting: Three Committed Players Receive Offers

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 2:48 p.m. ET

Three committed players have received offers from the University of Texas.

New Texas football head coach Tom Herman has stayed busy these past few days. He got JUCO kicker Joshua Rowland to join the Longhorns for 2017, stayed in the hunt for top offensive tackle prospect Walker Little, and is still trying to fill out the coaching staff for his inaugural season. The recruiting process for the team and coaching staff is far from over, though.

On Friday, two players that already committed to schools announced that they received offers from Texas: Tre Brown (Oklahoma), Derek Kerstetter (Oklahoma State), and Roshauud Paul (Texas A&M).

Brown is considered the No. 2 prospect in Oklahoma and the No. 21 overall cornerback by 247Sports. He committed to Oklahoma back on March 11, so we’ll see if the Longhorn coaching staff can change the mind of this four-star prospect to leave their arch-rivals.

Kerstetter is an offensive tackle that’s ranked 134th among Texas prospects, according to 247Sports. He’s also the 89th overall offensive tackle coming into the 2017 recruiting ranks. The San Antonio native committed to Oklahoma State back on June 12, meaning Herman and Co. will have to try to flip him by the winter early next year.

It should be noted that Paul got an offer from Herman while at Houston.

According to 247Sports’ write up on Paul, he’s a three-star athlete and the No. 56 overall prospect from Texas. He’s been committed to Texas A&M since March 5, though, so it’s far from a guarantee that the dual-threat quarterback will drop this to go to Austin.

Herman is looking to build on his class that already features eight commitments for the 2017 season, most of which are carryovers from Charlie Strong’s tenure. This includes four-star commits Lagaryonn Carson, Sam Ehlinger, Damion Miller, Taquon Graham, and Montrell Estell. There’s still time to establish this class before spring practice, which will help Herman settle into Texas as the new year kicks off.

Things are steadily coming together for Texas with a long path still to go to developing the 2017 football team. Who could they look to bring in next?
