Texas Football: Tom Herman Explains the '1-0' Hashtag's Meaning (Video)
Tom Herman would explain the meaning behind his “1-0” hashtag.
Tom Herman will bring many new directions to the Texas football team in 2017 after taking over for Charlie Strong. He’s already bringing in recruits, looking to flip some from other schools, and prepare for the upcoming National Signing Day. Another thing will be his inclusion of the “1-0” hashtag.
Earlier this week, Herman spoke at the Touchdown Club of Houston and explained what the “1-0” hashtag means. It’s something that developed during his time with the Cougars (h/t 247Sports):
“I know everybody wants to talk about focusing on this week, one game at a time, one week at a time, but we break the phrase down a lot more intricately,” Herman said. “For us 1-0, we’ve broken it down to competing every second of every day in everything that you do.”
“I challenge myself everyday,” Herman said. “When I wake up, I tell myself, ‘when I put my head down on that pillow tonight, was I a better husband, a better father and a better head coach at the University of Texas.’ If the answer is yes, then I’m 1-0 that day.”

Herman seems like he focuses on what’s happening now, get the task done, and move forward. Then his team would move onto the next job, get that done, and continue with the process. He even noted that he uses this to “challenge” himself every day, so this goes way beyond the football field for the 41-year-old.
We’ll see how much Tom Herman’s “1-0” gets incorporated into the Texas football program. It would signal a team culture being developed of going one week at a time, not looking too much into the future, and getting everyone on the same page.
