This time Frogs' defense really could get a starter back

The TCU defense could certainly use some good news this week and they might get it with tackle Davion Pierson making strides toward a return.

TCU coach Gary Patterson was hopeful Pierson would play last week, but the lineman suffered from recurring dizziness due to a concussion that has kept him out of the lineup all season. Pierson, TCU's most experienced defensive starter with more than 30 career starts, was able to attend team meetings earlier in the week and might be cleared to play in Saturday's Big 12 opener at Texas Tech.

"He's finally coming out of it," Patterson told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “He’s worked out and done things, and hopefully he’ll do a little bit, and hopefully he’ll get a chance to play this week."

The No. 2 Horned Frogs have been rocked by injuries to numerous defensive starters and could use the return of a veteran player against the Red Raiders' explosive spread offense. Tech has started the season 3-0, including a 35-24 win at Arkansas last week.

Plus, Tech will be ready and waiting for the Frogs, who blasted it 82-27 last year in Fort Worth.

"Just Davion coming back to the defensive line group is a big positive,” Patterson said. “Just having an older guy back there to give us some leadership on the field, even though he probably won’t be able to play a full game.”
