Tipped pass wins it for TCU in shootout with Texas Tech

No. 3 TCU, rocked by injuries throughout the first three weeks of the season, found some good luck in the back of the end zone Saturday when Aaron Green caught a tipped pass with 23 seconds to go to give the Horned Frogs a wild 55-52 victory over Texas Tech.

The Red Raiders had to believe they had the game won when receiver Josh Doctson couldn't reach high enough for quarterback Trevone Boykin's pass and tipped it up and toward the back of the end zone. Green, in the right spot at the right time, lunged for it, corralled it and managed to get a foot down for the improbable touchdown and the lead.

Texas Tech, which lost 82-27 last year to the Frogs, had one last-gasp attempt after a TCU penalty gave the Red Raiders another play with no time on the clock. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes escaped numerous tackles and finally completed a pass, but several drama-filled laterals that moved the ball well downfield finally came to an end at the sideline around TCU's 10-yard line.

Doctson caught a Big 12 record-tying 18 catches in the game, yet remarkably it was the one he couldn't catch that sealed the game for TCU.
