Totally Serious Opponent Report: Rhett Lashlee Returns to DWS

Look out everyone, Rhett Lashlee is returning to Davis Wade Stadium. Scene of the infamous timeout call…

Williams run Arkansas win

Rhett’s got play-calling duties now. Did you know it?

That’s right, it’s no longer Gus Malzahn’s offense anymore. The guru is no longer a guru – it’s all in the hands of Rhett Lashlee.

Of course, Rhett knows the offense backwards and front having played quarterback for Malzahn at Springdale High School in the mid-2000s. Then he got the offensive coordinator job at Arkansas State under Malzahn at the ripe old age of 28.

Maybe Rhett’s the genius. Boy wonder.

This reminds me of when Steve Spurrier let his son call the plays at South Carolina. That lasted about two games too.

Gus Malzahn is all happy now and wearing baseball caps instead of visors, but you know as soon as some bad things start happening he’s going to rip that play card away from Rhett and do his own thing.

The magic behind Auburn’s 2010 and 2013 SEC Championships and runs to the BCS title game in both years was Gus Malzahn’s play-calling, right? Now it’s in the hands of Rhett Lashlee who was Matt Jones backup at Arkansas 10 years ago?

So far Rhett is 2-0 as the play-caller. He’s managed to win a game against LSU by not scoring a touchdown, but setting up six field goals. Then he ran over Louisiana-Monroe because they are Louisiana-Monroe and couldn’t tackle his tailbacks.

Rhett’s got an opinion on cowbells too, (as all Auburn folks do). He compared them to a dripping faucet:

they do have a tendency sometimes to just, the constant ringing, (it’s) kind of like a dripping faucet a little bit. I think if you let your mind go there, it can affect you.

Might want to get a plumber on that faucet at the Lashlee house.

I’m glad for Rhett to get this chance that will be taken away after this game. He’s come a long way since busting it on the DWS sideline. Can’t wait to see if Andrew’s forecast calls for rain.
