Trau's late FG gives Richmond 27-24 win over Albany (NY)
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Griffin Trau kicked a field goal with seconds to play, giving Richmond a 27-24 win over Albany (NY) Saturday night.
Trau capped a 57-yard drive led by Joe Mancuso with a 25-yard field goal with six seconds remaining to give the Spiders (3-4, 1-3 Colonial Athletic Association) their first conference victory.
On the previous Albany drive, Ethan Stark had kicked a 29-yard field goal to tie it at 24 with 4:02 left.
The Spiders took an early lead on a 1-yard run by Gordon Collins and scored twice more before the break, on a 28-yard dash by Mancuso and a 32-yard field goal by Trau, to go up 17-14 at halftime.
Albany pulled ahead 21-17 late in the third and the Spiders answered on the next series with an inglorious touchdown when tight end Stephon Jacob recovered his own quarterback's fumble in the end zone after Mancuso had been stopped on a keeper. Richmond was up 24-21.
Mancuso finished with 286 passing yards.
Vincent Testaverde had 135 yards and a score passing for the Great Danes (2-4, 0-3).
