Trey Matthews healed and ready to go in Auburn's secondary
With just over a week until kickoff, the revamped Auburn secondary looks good to go with incoming transfer Trey Matthews returning to the field after battling injuries through much of fall camp.
“Coach Muschamp emphasizes physicality,” Matthews said to 247Sports. “We bring that to the table more and more every day. Now that I’m back, I’m trying to bring it every day. I’m going to be the one that’s bringing the boom every practice and every game.”
The Georgia transfer sat out all over last season due to NCAA transfer rules and is itching to get back onto the field and compete for the Tigers.
“I’m just anxious to be out there again, ready to play in front of thousands of people, ready to help this Auburn defense,” Matthews said. “I’m loving it here, so it’s not really a big difference. I’m just ready to play football again.”
Fellow transfer and secondary member Blake Countess has been impressed with Matthews so far in practice. His contribution to the defense is easy to see for the former Michigan Wolverine.
“He’s just a guy that is flying around,” Countess said. “You can tell he definitely loves contact and loves football.”
