UCLA Football: The Much Needed Bye Week Allows For Recuperation

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The UCLA Football team is on a bye week and though we are without our favorite team for the weekend, it could not have come at a better time.

From the fan perspective, a bye week means your favorite team will not be playing on the weekend. Luckily, this is a short bye week for UCLA Football fans, so it’s not too bad. As for the team, the bye has not come at a better time.

The Bruins are 3-5 heading into their last four games of the season and are prepping for a Thursday night game against division leading Colorado.

They have a starting quarterback that is hurt, a defensive line that was shocked and an offensive line that is not doing so hot, especially in the run game.

    Bless these bye weeks.

UCLA needs this extra time to figure out exactly what is going wrong with the offense, which is the major factor contributing to the Bruins’ losing record. Offensive Coordinator Kennedy Polamalu also needs to decide what exactly he wants to do with his offense.

In the offseason, Polamalu altered the offense and added power schemes. He wanted to toughen up their game and played Stanford-style football. Well, they are now going the route of Washington State with a pass-heavy offense as they abandoned the run in their last game against Utah. UCLA passed the ball 70 times and only called ten run plays. There is definitely some contrast from the preseason approach to right now.

It does not matter what they choose as long as they are able to move the ball, score some points and win some games.

The Bruins also have this extra time to rest. Josh Rosen is out indefinitely, but could be ready for Colorado. If he is not ready to go, then Mike Fafaul will do a fine job replacing him. Hopefully not with five interceptions this time.

Hopefully the extra time will give the UCLA Football team the boost they need to fight fight fight against Colorado. Go Bruins!
