UNC Football: Cayson Collins earns ACC honors
Another UNC football player earns ACC Player of the Week honors following the Tar Heels win over James Madison
Last week it was linebacker Andre Smith that earned the ACC Linebacker of the Week award for his stellar play at Illinois. Now it’s Cayson Collins’ turn.
Collins was named the ACC Linebacker of the Week winner for his efforts against the James Madison Dukes in week two.
The junior linebacker recorded 10 tackles in the Tar Heels 56-28 win over James Madison, as the team moved to 2-1 on the season.

It was a shaky start for UNC’s defense at first, allowing the Dukes to score touchdowns on their first three drives of the game. But they got it figured out, thanks in large part to Collins play.
Here’s what the ACC had to say about Collins in their weekly recap:
Collins finished with 10 tackles, including two for loss, in North Carolina’s 56-28 win over visiting James Madison on Saturday. Collins’ defensive work helped the Tar Heels hold the Dukes scoreless on seven of their final eight drives of the game.
While the Tar Heels had two player earn the honors in back-to-back weeks, the Louisville Cardinals were the big winners this week.
Louisville dominated Florida State to send a message to not only the ACC but the rest of the nation as well. For their efforts, four Cardinals players were named to the ACC Player of the Week list.
For the Tar Heels, the attention now shifts to Pittsburgh who they will host on Saturday for their first conference game of the season. The Tar Heels went undefeated in the ACC in 2015 and have a eight-game win streak at home, dating back to the 2015 season.
