UNC head coach Larry Fedora turns down the University of Houston

Over the last couple of months, there have been a lot of questions surrounding Larry Fedora and his future as the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Today, UNC fans are able to check another name off the list of possible suitors for Fedora as he turned down the open position at Houston, per a source of CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd.

Fedora is a late-December bowl game short of wrapping up his fifth season as the Tar Heels’ front man. He’s got a 40-24 mark in those five years including an 11-win season in 2015 that saw his team come up one score short of a possible ACC title and College Football Playoff appearance.

The 54-year-old coach has been linked to a number of job openings in recent weeks including Baylor, which he allegedly had interest in according to Bleacher Report’s Jason King.

And while Fedora’s name had been frequently mentioned in recent weeks regarding the Baylor position, there have been no reports of a mutual interest between Fedora and Houston.

Fedora has helped steady the UNC football program after the difficulties incurred during the Butch Davis era that involved players receiving impermissible benefits.

Although UNC dodged another bullet today, Fedora is viewed as a hot commodity in the coaching world and will likely be offered other jobs before it’s all said and done.

The Tar Heels wrap up their 2016 season in El Paso, Texas on December 30th against Pac-12 opponent Stanford in the Hyundai Sun Bowl.
