UNC Football: Malik Zaire down to two teams?
It’s a two team race for Notre Dame transfer Malik Zaire but the Tar Heels might not be the favorite
The race for transfer quarterback Malik Zaire might be down to just two teams according to the latest rumors.
247Sports’ Tom Loy is reporting that the Zaire race is between two teams, North Carolina and Wisconsin. Zaire visited both schools over the past week, visiting Wisconsin on Wednesday and Thursday then a weekend trip to UNC.
Both teams are in need of a quarterback, especially the Tar Heels who could see Mitch Trubisky declare for the NFL Draft.
The Tar Heels were also considered the front runner for Zaire but now Loy is hearing something different.
Here’s what Loy wrote:
I’ve been digging into this and from what I can gather, people connected with Wisconsin’s program are much more confident than North Carolina at this point. It’ll be interesting to watch, but pulling the trigger for the Badgers sooner rather than later wouldn’t come as a major shock to me.
From that, it sounds as if Zaire is leaning towards the Badgers after both visits have concluded and with Trubisky yet to declare, it could push him to Wisconsin. Zaire would start right away at UNC is Trubisky leaves. He would also start at Wisconsin right away as well.
The former Notre Dame quarterback is also interested in Pittsburgh but he hasn’t taken an official visit yet. Loy also notes that the Panthers are attempting to get him on campus.
If Trubisky does go to the NFL, landing Zaire would be huge for the Tar Heels program. But they will have to wait and see with their junior quarterback.
Check back for the latest on both Zaire and Trubisky.
