UNC Football: Tar Heels Dominate Georgia Tech on Saturday
Georgia Tech came to Kenan Stadium today but they were no match for the Tar Heels 48-20 victory for Homecoming.
The Tar Heels received the opening kickoff, and marched 75 yards down the field in 1 minute and 45 seconds with the help of a 45-yard run from the big man, Elijah Hood, and never really looked back.
Georgia Tech went three and out on the following drive, but were an absolute pest for the rest of the half.
Following Tech’s first two drives that left them two scores down, Paul Johnson’s offense scored on four straight possessions, and it appeared the Heels were in a shoot out.
Georgia Tech brought the score within three on an out of character 83-yard pitch and catch from Thomas to Lynch, but the Heels responded quickly when Trubisky gave the ball to Elijah Hood on a 4th and 1 and scampered for a touchdown with 38 seconds left, once again taking a ten point lead.
On that play, Hood ran for 36 of his 168 yards, and that left him rumbling for 14 yards per touch. UNC finished the half with a 27-17 lead after a 50 yard field goal from a solid Nick Weiler and a 68 yard touchdown connection from Trubisky to Bug Howard.
In the second half, North Carolina’s defense went on to dominate, holding the Rambling Wreck to only three points in the second half.
There are so many things that can be said, whether it be Trubisky’s non surprising 300 plus passing game with no interceptions, to Chizik’s ability to drive the defense.
We could go so far as to talk about Bug Howard honoring Mac Hollins by wearing his number, but what really matters is the Tar Heels are still in the hunt for a Coastal title, though the Hokies still remain in control.
At this point, North Carolina can only continue to do what they do, and play ball. Georgia Tech was honestly no match for the Tar Heels, but the real match is time. That is time against the Coastal clock.
Regardless, UNC must focus and play their game, rely on no one else and give themselves the chance by doing their part on the field, I could name names on either side of the ball, but the team has to be a team and do their part to meet the goals they set as a group.
Like Larry Fedora said last year, “If we do our part, we will be pleased with the outcome.” This team didn’t come this far to lay down, and they refuse to start now.
