UNC Football: Tar Heels pull off trick play for long touchdown
UNC’s trick play touchdown one of the highlights in the first half against JMU
The North Carolina Tar Heels are at home for the first time in the 2016-17 season as they host the James Madison Dukes.
But it’s not so easy early on.
The Dukes found the endzone on their opening drive for a touchdown, running 9 plays and covering 82 yards. It was a shock to the Tar Heels, who are short on the defensive line Saturday missing two key players.
The teams would exchange touchdown drives with the Dukes taking a 14-7 lead. But it didn’t take long for the Tar Heels to answer back.
UNC called for some trickery with a flea flicker and it worked beautifully.
Mitch Trubisky handed it off to Elijah Hood who tossed it back to the quarterback. Then Trubisky found a wide open Ryan Switzer streaking down the field.
Check it out:
The play went for 75 yards and was Switzer’s first touchdown of the season. More importantly, it tied the game at 14.
Trubisky also found receiver Mack Hollins for a 71-yard touchdown in the second quarter, giving him two huge plays thus far on the day.
But the Tar Heels are still struggling.
The Dukes are currently hanging tough with the Tar Heels, as they scored on their first three drives. After UNC forced a three-and-out and then scored, the Dukes missed a field goal.
