UNC vs. NC State: Preview, time, how to watch and more
UNC and NC State meet at Kenan Memorial Stadium for the regular season finale with a lot on the line
The North Carolina Tar Heels and North Carolina State Wolfpack will end their regular seasons on Friday as the rivalry adds a new chapter.
Both teams enter the game with a lot on the line.
The Tar Heels enter at 5-2 in ACC play and will need a win plus a Virginia Tech loss to make it back to the ACC Championship Game. North Carolina State enters at 5-6 overall and needs a win to become bowl eligible.
They also want to avenge a 45-34 loss at the hands of the Tar Heels last season.
The Wolfpack will look to run Matt Dayes early and often. In last week’s loss to Miami, Dayes rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown. He became the first Wolfpack running back to rush for 1,000 yards in a season since 2002.
If the Wolfpack can get Dayes going and limit their mistakes, they have a shot at staying in the game. The longer they can keep it close, the better chance they have.
The Tar Heels will look to continue to roll on offense.
Their offense returned to form against The Citadel in a big win. It came a week after the Duke Blue Devils limited Carolina’s big plays and stunned the Tar Heels, putting a dent into their season.
UNC will rely on quarterback Mitch Trubisky and running backs Elijah Hood and T.J. Logan to pace its offense.
On the defensive side, UNC will look to shut down the Wolfpack running game as they don’t really pose much of a threat through the air.
Quarterback Ryan Finley is prone to making some mistakes, including a crucial red zone interception against Miami last week. If the Wolfpack fall behind and have to start throwing, that’s advantage Carolina.
It could be an emotional day for the Tar Heels as it’s Senior Day in Kenan Memorial Stadium. This year, 16 seniors will be playing in their final game at home. It could also be the last home games for Trubisky and Hood if they decide to declare for the NFL Draft.
Today we are especially grateful for our 16 seniors who will play their last game in Kenan Stadium tomorrow. #ThankYouSeniors pic.twitter.com/clTNJqxvOH
