UNC Writer Answers Our Questions Ahead of ACC Battle
We asked the writer over at North Carolina’s site, Keeping It Heel, three questions ahead of FSU football’s ACC showdown Saturday against the Tar Heels.
After a week where they stepped out of conference for a win over South Florida, FSU football returns to ACC play this week against the reigning champions of the Coastal Division, the North Carolina Tar Heels.
UNC opened the season on a sour note when they gave up a fourth quarter lead in their opener against Georgia. Since then, the Tar Heels have rattled off three straight wins – including a road win over Illinois and a one point victory in their ACC opener against Pittsburgh last week.
Heading into Saturday’s monster meeting, we reached out to our friend over at FanSided’s site for the Tar Heels, Keeping It Heel, and their site expert Zack Pearson, to get some insight with three main questions heading into Saturday’s showdown.

No. 1 – We all know the amount of talent Ryan Switzer has and what he brings to the table (and that Mitch Trubisky can run, but is more adept at passing first and UNC has two very good running backs as well), but who are some of the other weapons FSU needs to look out for and how do you expect the UNC offense to attack the FSU defense?
ZACK: UNC’s backfield with Trubisky, Hood and Logan are the primary weapons that everyone knows about. But wide receiver Mack Hollins is one of the more underrated at his position in the country. He missed the first half of the Georgia game and UNC’s offense struggled. Hollins is their best deep threat and seems to connect with Trubisky on at least 1-2 deep balls a game. If he can get through that FSU secondary, it will surely help the Tar Heels.

No. 2 – Both defenses have been suspect this season, so how do you expect UNC to try and slow the FSU run game down after Dalvin Cook looked like is old self last week? If they gear up to stop the run, how do you expect the UNC secondary to fair against FSU receivers and Deondre Francois?
ZACK: Let’s just say this. I trust UNC’s secondary to stop the Seminoles receivers a lot more than I trust the defense to stop the run game. UNC’s secondary with Des Lawrence and MJ Stewart is two of the best cornerbacks you don’t hear about in the country. It’s going to be interesting to see how well they match up with FSU’s receivers.

No. 3 – The Tar Heels have a monster three game stretch of FSU, Virginia Tech and Miami coming up. Do fans think they have a legit shot of sweeping all three games after seeing the first month of the season?
ZACK: After Saturday’s crazy comeback win, I believe UNC fans think the team can win all three. They swept through the ACC last season and won all of their home games. I think if they can beat FSU, they really can sweep the three. The FSU game is by far the toughest. Really good team, tough environment and the chance to get back into the top 25.
