UPDATE: IU Wide Reciever Kiante Enis Charged with Molestation
Especially disturbing news coming out of Bloomington, Indiana today as one of their football players faces serious legal charges.
On Thursday morning, Indiana University’s Kiante Enis was arrested on two counts of child molestation according to The Star Press.
According to the report, Randolph County sheriffs were made aware of an “unusual relationship” with Enis, 19, and “a child 13 years or younger”. This news comes especially troubling to students at the university as Enis admits in an interview with police that “a consensual sexual occurred on at least two occasions in Randolph County.”
In the state of Indiana, child molestation is a Level 3 felony that carries a maximum sentence of 16 years in prison. Kiante Enis was arrested and booked in Randolph County Thursday who happened to be in the area for his birthday.
Enis was a three-star recruit out of Winchester Community High School who was a well known athlete in the community. Enis was given an athletic scholarship from Indiana University’s Football Program after decommitting from Michigan earlier in the year. He was also named the best running back in the state of Indiana in his final year at Winchester, coming in fifth place for overall Mr. Football.
Kiante Enis has not appeared in a single game for the Hoosiers, Coach Wilson saying that he has been dealing with a concussion which has sidelined him.
Indiana’s Football program has come under fire the last few weeks, first with the suspension of six players before the start of the first game for “not living up to the responsibilities of the team following the 2015 season.”
This is the second arrest in as many days for IU football players as back up kicker Aaron Del Grosso was arrested for criminal trespassing and public intoxication. The fight was with an ex-girlfriend concerning the ownership of a dog. This added to the citation of freshman lineman Jerome Johnson after being found unconscious in the stairwell of his dorm. He was cited for underaged consumption of alcohol.
All of this just another negative and quite disturbing image that Indiana University’s Athletic Program has been pictured to the public recently. In 2015, Antonio Allen was arrested for multiple counts of drug possession and a firearm. Indiana later dismissed Allen from their program. It also adds to the past trouble the basketball team has seen with some of their players. Hanner Masquera-Perea, Devin Davis, and Emmit Holt were all players involved in multiple off the court issues involving law enforcement.
Simply, the words of IU President McRobbie should not be taken lightly “This behavior must stop.” which was expressed last August in address to the University.
